Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 August 2026

Khetiyaar respects your privacy and complies with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. This page explains what we collect, why, and your rights — in plain language.

1. What We Collect

  • Phone number — to send the OTP that signs you in and (for sellers) to let buyers contact you on the marketplace.
  • Farm profile — your name, location (precise or approximate), soil type, crops, land size, home-garden setup, and field boundaries you record with Land Measurement.
  • Photos, documents & audio — crop/disease photos, marketplace listing and brand photos, and any GST, licence, or certificate documents you upload for verification. With your permission, microphone audio when you use a voice-to-text field anywhere in the app — your phone's speech service converts it to text and we store only the resulting text, never the recording.
  • Device & usage info — device model, OS, language, push notification token, in-app actions, coin balance, transaction history, and crash logs.
  • Buyer requirements (“Wanted” posts) — when you post what you want to BUY on the Bazar: who you are buying as (e.g. exporter, trader, mill, shop, hotel, FPO, or farmer), the product and quantity you need, quality preferences (such as grade, ripeness, or packing), your price range, needed-by date, buying radius, district-level location, and the contact number you enter for sellers to reach you. Optionally, one business document (GST / IEC / APMC) if you apply for the Verified-buyer badge.
  • Farming Pulse poll responses — the crop you plan to grow, your planned land size and unit (converted to approximate acres), your planned timing or season, and the district and state of the plot. No precise village or GPS location is attached to a poll. Taking part is voluntary, you can enter up to 4 crop plans per poll, and you can edit or delete them at any time.

2. How We Use It

  • Authenticate you and personalise AI crop plans, garden plans, daily tasks, and the chat assistant.
  • Show local weather, agricultural alerts, and marketplace listings near your location.
  • Process coin top-ups, brand verification, dealer-locator inquiries, and marketplace transactions between farmers, dealers, and brands.
  • Send push notifications you've enabled, fix bugs through crash reports, and improve the app using aggregated, non-identifying analytics.
  • Your location (GPS or the place you pick) is used to find mandis near you and show their prices. It is processed by our servers and never shared with the government price-data provider.
  • If you set a mandi price alert, we store the crop, your target price, and the location you chose so our servers can check prices and notify you. You can delete an alert at any time.
  • Show government MSP and procurement information for your crop and — if you enable notifications — remind you when a verified registration window opens or closes. We do not collect your Aadhaar, land records, or bank details, and never register you or submit any application on your behalf.
  • Match buyer requirements with sellers — when a buyer posts a “Wanted” requirement, our servers compare its product and location with existing seller listings and send matching sellers a push notification (if they have notifications enabled). Only the buyer's own post content is shown to sellers; a seller's private data is never shared with the buyer.
  • Count activity on your Bazar posts — views and contact taps (call / WhatsApp) on your listing or requirement are logged as daily totals and shown to you as your post's stats. We show you counts only, never who tapped.
  • Review in-app reports and feedback you submit — our moderation team reads them, may contact you for details, and may remove reported content or restrict violating accounts.
  • Build aggregated Farming Pulse demand trends — farmer counts, planned land, and crop shares shown by area. These are always presented as approximate estimates, marked “~”.

3. AI & Your Data

  • When you ask the AI a question, send a crop photo, or generate a plan, your input is forwarded to our AI provider — currently Google (Gemini) — solely to compute the response.
  • We do not permit our AI vendors to train their public models on your inputs.
  • Your AI history (chats, plans, diagnoses) stays linked to your account — you can delete it any time by deleting your account.
  • AI guidance is advisory and not a substitute for a qualified agronomist, veterinarian, or licensed agro-input dealer.
  • The mandi “sell or wait” suggestion sends your selected crop and nearby-market price context (not your exact GPS) to our AI provider to compute a one-line view; it is advisory only.
  • When you upload a certificate or licence to a marketplace listing or brand, we send that document image to Google (Gemini) to read and screen it — for example its document type, issuer, and validity. This automated check helps flag fakes; it is advisory, not a legal guarantee of authenticity, and our review may override it.

4. Data Sharing

  • We never sell your personal data and we do not display third-party ads inside Khetiyaar.
  • Trusted sub-processors that help us run the app: Amazon Web Services (image hosting via S3 + CloudFront), Google (Gemini AI for crop advice, chat, and certificate/document screening), Sentry (crash reports), Open-Meteo (weather), Expo (push notifications), Google Play, Apple App Store & RevenueCat (coin-pack purchases), and MSG91 (OTP SMS delivery).
  • Marketplace data is partly public by design: your listing photos, brand name, dealer name, and contact button are visible to buyers within your radius.
  • A buyer requirement (“Wanted”) post is also public by design: the product, quantity, price range, quality preferences, needed-by date, buyer type, district, Verified-buyer badge (if granted), and your contact number are visible to sellers within the radius you chose — that is how sellers reach you. Do not include anything in a post you are not comfortable sharing. Business documents you upload for buyer verification are never public; they are used only for our verification review and stored securely.
  • Farming Pulse insights may be shared with government, market, and manufacturer partners only in aggregate — never your identity, and other farmers never see who voted. Authorised Khetiyaar admins can view an individual response together with the farmer's name and phone number so we can follow it up; that access is audit-logged, and the data is never sold.
  • We disclose data to law-enforcement or regulators only when required by Indian law or to protect users from imminent harm.

5. Data Storage & Security

  • Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS / TLS) and at rest on our cloud infrastructure.
  • All coin purchases are processed by your device's app store — Google Play Billing on Android or Apple In-App Purchase on iOS (via RevenueCat); we never see or store your card / UPI / banking details.
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorised engineers and audited; we apply the principle of least privilege.
  • We retain data only as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law; closed-account data is erased or anonymised within 30 days.
  • Some sub-processors process data on servers outside India. We allow this only with contractual safeguards and as permitted by the DPDP Act 2023.
  • If a personal-data breach affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India, as the DPDP Act 2023 requires.

6. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — update inaccurate or incomplete information from inside the app or by emailing us.
  • Erasure — delete your account and its data directly in the app (Profile → Delete Account), or by emailing support@khetiyaar.com from your registered contact.
  • Withdraw consent at any time — some features (location-based weather, AI plans, marketplace) may stop working without it.
  • Grievance — write to support@khetiyaar.com (we respond within 30 days) or escalate to the Data Protection Board of India.
  • Nominate — you may appoint another person to exercise these rights for you if you are unable to (DPDP Act, Section 14).

7. Device Permissions & Controls

  • Location — used for local weather, severe-weather alerts, nearby Bazar listings and dealers, and GPS land measurement. You can turn it off anytime in phone Settings; those features will stop working.
  • Camera & photos — used only when you scan a plant for diagnosis, upload listing or brand photos, or change your profile picture.
  • Microphone — used only while you use a voice-to-text field (the chat assistant, and free-text fields in Bazar such as product name or description). Your phone's speech service converts the audio to text; we store the text, not the recording.
  • Notifications — choose categories in Profile → Notifications or mute channels in phone Settings. Read-aloud (listen) features run entirely on your device.

8. Children's Privacy

  • Khetiyaar is intended for users 18 years and older. Under India's DPDP Act 2023, we do not knowingly process the data of minors without verifiable parental consent.
  • If you believe a minor has signed up, email support@khetiyaar.com and we will erase the account.

9. Changes & Contact

  • We may update this policy as the app evolves; material changes will be announced inside the app before they take effect.
  • Grievance Officer: Khetiyaar Support — support@khetiyaar.com (reply within 30 days, in line with the DPDP Act 2023).
  • Governed by the laws of India; courts in Gujarat, India have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes.
